Charity Golf Day Raises Over £13,000 |
Celia and Mike Denny once again demonstrated their exceptional commitment to supporting the racing community by organising their annual pre‑Christmas Charity Golf Day at Burhill Golf Club. The event was a resounding success, attracting a full field of 88 golfers who took to the course on a crisp and bright winter’s day. Among the competitors were well‑known racing personalities, including Grand National‑winning jockeys Daryl Jacob and Mick Fitzgerald, adding extra excitement to an already lively occasion. For the third consecutive year, the day was generously sponsored by TX Odds, whose continued support has played a key role in the growing success of the event. After an enjoyable morning of golf, guests gathered for a festive Christmas lunch and the eagerly anticipated prize‑giving ceremony. The afternoon concluded with a lively charity auction, expertly led by broadcasters Ollie Bell and Rishi Persad, whose energy and good humour helped drive bidding to impressive heights. Thanks to the collective generosity of participants, sponsors, and auction bidders, the event raised an outstanding £13,158 for the Injured Jockeys Fund (IJF). In addition, several smaller donations were made to other deserving charities chosen by the organisers. Lisa Hancock, Chief Executive of the IJF, expressed heartfelt thanks to Celia and Mike Denny for their continued dedication and for raising such a remarkable sum to support injured jockeys across the country. Saturday 14th February saw Ascot Racecourse host a cheque presentation, where Celia Denny handed over the proceeds to IJF Vice Chairman Ed Chamberlin and recently retired, high‑profile jockey Daryl Jacob, who also took part in the event. The IJF is immensely grateful to everyone involved in making this year’s Charity Golf Day such a success. Events like this not only raise vital funds but also showcase the extraordinary goodwill and community spirit at the heart of the racing world. |
