If the London Marathon wasn’t already a stern enough test, Andy Corbett decided to raise the bar. While most runners drift through April on a diet of caution and carbohydrates, Andy spent the month climbing a rising staircase of miles: one on the 1st, two on the 2nd, three on the 3rd, all the way to 25 on the eve of the race before turning up to knock off the full 26.2 for good measure. Having now completed 351 miles — a tally that sits somewhere between the commendable and the clinically questionable — he crossed the London Marathon finish line in a superb 3:29:53.
He took on the challenge for two causes close to him: Calvert Devon, an activity centre providing accessible, adapted activities for people of all abilities, and the Injured Jockeys Fund, whose support he once relied on in his amateur‑riding days and now sees helping old colleagues and friends. Calvert works with people living with a wide range of challenges — from spinal injuries to sight loss — and the IJF have used their services before. With adapted equipment and a team who know how to open up opportunity, visitors take on zip‑wires, lakes, climbing walls and abseiling with confidence.
The whole Injured Jockeys Fund team has been following his daily videos and cheering him on every step as the miles have stacked up. And in true Andy fashion, he capped the month with a grin — crossing the line while “starting” an imaginary lawnmower and pushing it home — before sharing that he’d logged 351 miles in April, 170 of them in his final week, and taken his fundraising beyond £7,000. It’s an extraordinary effort, full of determination, humour and heart.
Speaking afterwards, Andy said:
“The support from the IJF and Calvert Devon has been fantastic. I couldn’t have raised this much without them. The marathon was the perfect end to an incredible month — I still can’t believe how well it all went.”
