The Injured Jockeys Fund, generously supported by The Peter O’Sullevan Charitable Trust, is to invest further in mental health support by welcoming help from the expert Clinical Psychologists ‘Changing Minds’.
This will enable the IJF to further develop and implement their clinical strategy, to provide ‘hands on’ expertise in the three Rehabilitation Centres, Oaksey House, Jack Berry House and Peter O’Sullevan House, plus provide ongoing ad hoc support as required.
Lisa Hancock, CEO of the IJF says:
“Whilst we are not a mental health charity, we have recognized the importance of mental wellbeing for a long time and place huge importance on supporting those who may be finding things difficult. Working with Changing Minds will significantly enhance our in house understanding of how best to support mental health issues and it will provide a clear referral route to experts in this very complex area. I would like to thank the Peter O’Sullevan Charitable Trust for their immediate enthusiasm to help us with this.”
Nigel Payne, Administrator of The Peter O’Sullevan Charitable Trust, says:
“For some time now our Trustees have been committed to finding appropriate causes to support relating to mental health issues within the racing industry. When we were approached a few weeks ago with this proposal we were unanimous in our willingness to offer our support. We all know for sure that Peter would totally approve.”
Each of the IJF’s three Rehabilitation centres will receive weekly support from a fully qualified HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist via input into multi-disciplinary team meetings and activity relating to mental health and psychological wellbeing. They will also offer psychological screening for jockeys and beneficiaries, case consultation and provision of initial clinical assessment and recommendations and work closely with IJF staff and almoners.
On a strategic level, Changing Minds will consult with senior management at the IJF and other relevant industry partners to help develop and support a wellbeing pathway across the service and the development of a psychological framework for practice across the Fund and each centre.
Changing Minds is an independent provider of Comprehensive Psychological Services. The organisation works with individuals and organisations across a range of complex settings including high performance sport, business, mental health and criminal justice.
